This project centered on the precision assembly of sensitive computer clock modules—integrating semiconductor chips, quartz crystals, and batteries with sub-millimeter repeatability.
The Challenge: Overcoming Manual Production Bottlenecks
A leading manufacturer of semiconductor components faced a critical bottleneck in their production of computer clock modules. The existing manual assembly process was unable to scale with global demand and presented two primary risks to product viability:
Placement Precision: The assembly required micron-level placement accuracy to ensure perfect electrical integrity between the quartz crystal and the semiconductor substrate. Any deviation resulted in immediate component failure.
Quality Control: The manual process was highly susceptible to ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) risks, which caused latent defects in the chips. Furthermore, inconsistent manual throughput made production planning nearly impossible.
The Solution: Dial-Type Automatic Transfer and Assembly Machine
Our engineering team developed a Dial-Type Automatic Transfer and Assembly Machine. This system utilizes a multi-station rotary indexer to perform synchronized operations:
Automated Component Feeding: High-speed orienting and loading of semiconductor chips.
Precision Lead Forming: Integrated forming of quartz crystal leads for seamless chip integration.
Live Voltage Verification: In-process testing of batteries prior to placement to ensure 100% component viability.
Non-Shorting Soldering: A proprietary soldering process that connects crystal and chip leads without compromising the battery circuit.
100% End-of-Line Testing: Fully automated functional inspection followed by palletized sorting for downstream operations.
